Farnell Packaging achieves certification from the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership

SAYVILLE NY – February 26, 2018 – The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), the leading authority in sustainable printing certifications for print manufacturers, announced Farnell Packaging Limited of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia has achieved SGP certification.

Farnell Packaging, established in 1961, is a family-owned and operated business providing high-quality, innovative flexible packaging solutions. Farnell Packaging manufactures and distributes leading-edge flexible packaging materials and provides guidance with related equipment solutions. Nearly two-thirds of Farnell Packaging’s packaging is used in the food industry with the balance used in markets for tissue, personal care, horticulture, and other industrial applications.

“The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership belief that sustainability is a means of continuous improvement for every aspect of your business is very much in line with Farnell Packaging’s sustainability and continuous improvement practices - from process, to people, to profitability,” said Bill Morash, CEO, Farnell Packaging. “Part of our culture is understanding our impact on the world. Finding ways to improve our facility’s energy efficiency through our SGP certification was aligned with our culture of continuous improvement and our entrepreneurial spirit which keeps us asking, ‘What’s next?’ Recognizing the opportunity to seek SGP certification resulted in the creation of a cross-functional energy team, the opportunity to develop leaders and participate in project work that has resulted in growing revenue while reducing the annual electrical consumption by more than 156,00 kWh.”

Farnell Packaging ’s sustainability objective has always integrated environmental initiatives with economic prosperity. This is rooted in their founders’ commitment to maintaining the integrity of the company by being responsible to employees, customers and the world in which Farnell Packaging lives. Sustainability in business is more than just a set of operational principles. It is a mindset, and a corporate culture that has permeated every aspect of Farnell’s business strategy, focusing on a people-centered safety culture, their community, facility, and the process, materials, energy management, transportation, and reducing, reusing, and recycling opportunities.

“With the SGP certification process, we accomplishments include an Energy Profile, an Energy Assessment, an Energy Team, an updated Energy Policy, a Performance Tracking model an Energy Savings Opportunity Register, and to top it off a Bright Business Engagement Award for our staff who have always been at the heart or our company’s environmental successes,” said Morash. “We are confident that our infrastructure changes are creating a more sustainable continuous improvement culture that will continue to create value, savings, and other energy efficiencies for years to come.”

Print facilities interested in eliminating waste, reducing energy consumption, transitioning to sustainable materials, and winning new business from organizations that require sustainable printing practices from their suppliers should visit www.sgppartnership.org/certification/ to learn more about becoming SGP certified in 2018.
