Join our team as our Content Strategy Director

EMG is a leading international consultancy specialised in B2B content marketing, media relations & marketing communications. We work for major technology and industrial clients around the world with our multi-national team of 50 communicators across our HQ in The Netherlands and our office in China.

We are seeking a senior-level, highly-experienced content strategist to be our “storyteller-in-chief” working internationally across our teams to conceptualize and build entire ecosystems of information that bring our clients’ stories to life.

The Job

Imaginative, innovative, and always in search of the next big idea, you will develop content strategies that use a mix of written, video and infographic formats across a range of traditional and digital platforms to drive dialogue, generate media coverage, and manage crises. Your work creates buzz, gets people talking, and easily makes complex information accessible, interesting, relevant and useful.

Importantly, this role blends traditional communications strategy development – building master narratives, tying message architecture to business plans, and media engagement – with content creation and distribution strategies that provide short- and long-term blueprints for how, when and where a client can best leverage their unique stories. As our content ‘guru’, you will not only identify the storylines that break through the clutter, but you will use that content to directly support a client’s bottom line.

The role involves:

  • Working directly with clients to forge their business narratives and key message pillars
  • Developing stories to support those narratives and match them to digital formats
  • ‘Mining’ clients’ existing materials with an eye toward repurposing key information
  • Building flexible editorial calendars that create a steady ‘drumbeat’ of information
  • Developing holistic content ‘campaigns’ that move from awareness to engagement
  • Creating a ‘style and voice’ for clients that will resonate with their key audiences
  • Partnering with digital teams to advise on channels, engagement, and measurement
  • Providing counsel and coaching to senior client executives
  • Understanding how to use content to clarify misperceptions in the public arena and, when needed, to use content in a rapid 24/7 crisis response mode.

The Person

You will think like a journalist to develop cutting edge content that attracts diverse audiences while anticipating ‘red flags’ in content and messaging that can potentially arm critics. You are a strategic thinker, a great writer, and a strong influencer who can quickly gain the respect of our team and our clients as you easily switch gears from directing writers as a collaborative editorial adviser to independently drafting senior level messaging, stories, op-eds, and other strategic content.

With clients, you are at ease in the boardroom and a leader and diplomat who can provide counsel and thought leadership at the C-suite level, knowing when to persuade and when to execute. As a writer, you are competitive and a perfectionist who holds every piece of content – from a single Tweet to a lengthy speech – to the highest standards.

Experience Required

Extensive (10 year+) with agency experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have a track record of strategy development and content creation in the international B2B/technology sector across digital and traditional platforms. Those with strong consumer content backgrounds and a deep understanding of B2B will also be considered, as will digital engagement experts who have strong writing and content creation skills.

You must be able to present and write/edit fluently in English, with a flair for creative thinking and an eye for applying external media standards to digital savvy audiences.
